Badgeless 2012, Free SXSW for the rest of us
SXSW is here and for the past week or so you can see and feel SXSW in the air on the streets of downtown Austin, there are crews setting up stages, banners, all the bars getting ready, etc… And for the second time this year, this little blog was not able to obtain a media badge from SXSW… it turns out we are too small so no love for a tiny Austin blog, at least not now.
So after posting a tweet about free events for SXSWi, I got a reply from @gdgt about the awesome event they are hosting on Monday March 12th, 2012. The event name is gdgt Live in Austin and this is the 3rd time gdgt hosts this event. The best part, gdgt Live is free, all-ages, and open to the public! In their tweet they mentioned #badgeless2012 which it turns out is a website/blog that is all about people at SXSW with no badges.
About gdgt Live in Austin
At gdgt live you can expect a bunch of awesome companies there showcasing their latest gear; it’s your chance to try before you buy, and let companies hear what you think about their products. If you love technology, you won’t want to miss this.
They’ll also have some great free stuff for the first few hundred attendees, so don’t be late and register now! They’ll also have free drinks for the 21+ crowd, as well as plenty of chances to win some amazing products from our sponsors… how cool is that!
About Badgeless 2012
This comes from their about us page, and I couldn’t say this better:
For some it’s a choice, for other’s there is no choice because it’s too expensive. Whatever the reason, we are a grassroots community, striving to enjoy our geek spring break with everyone else. Enjoying each other’s company, learning from each other and partying every night with some of the best music, best BBQ and best community organizers from around the world in one of the greatest cities in the USA.
Badges, we don’t need no stinkin badges!
We choose people over podiums. We can learn from each other and self organize. We don’t need a lot of money, we need a lot of community contributions.
I am completely sold, this is a great idea and we would help promote this as much as we can, visit their website for more details.
