How To YouTube

With the sharing and broadcasting network of YouTube drastically growing, many have grown a desire to use the popular site and create their own content. You have a couple of options when it comes to using YouTube:

The first option is to use your Google account for YouTube, in which you simply have to put in your Google account’s username (email)  and password This is a picture of YouTube's iconwhen logging in. With this basic account, you will be able to like videos, save favorites, subscribe to channels, watch later, be able to view history, and flag videos. When doing this, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • If you delete your Google account, you will also end up deleting the associated YouTube account.
  •  Once signed up for  YouTube, if you sign into your Google account on any platform, you will            automatically be signed into the corresponding YouTube account.

The second option is to go from the first option and then also create your own personalized channel, which will give you a public presence on YouTube. This YouTube channel will allow you to do all that the basic account allows and will also permit you to upload your videos, comment, and create playlists. To do this you will have to use the mobile site or computer device. When doing this you have a couple of options:

Create a personal YouTube channel

  • To create a personal channel with your own name:
    1. Make sure that you are signed into your YouTube account.
    2. Go to Create a channel.
    3. Take a look at the details and then click OK.

Create a YouTube channel for your business

  • To create a channel with a business or other name:
    1. Make sure that you are signed into your YouTube account.
    2. Go to All my channels.
    3. If you want to create a Google+ page for the channel, you get the option to do so.
    4. Then, click Create a new channel.
    5. Make sure you fill out the details to create your new YouTube channel.

Once creating your account, you may be asked to verify it by phone. If you are not asked to verify your newly-created account and wish to upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes, you can do so by going to youtube.com/verify.

Tips and advice to be successful on YouTube

  • When creating your YouTube channel name, avoid using many symbols and numbers and make sure it’s catchy and memorable. A good tip is to say it out loud and see if it has a nice ring to it. Along with this, it would be a good idea to make sure that, when said aloud, it can easily be spelled out.
  • Going along with creating your YouTube channel name, it’s important to think of who you are and what content you want to display. It’s important to be introspective during this process because it will be very beneficial and helpful in the process of creating videos and deciding on what your YouTube channel name is.
  • Ever heard of the saying “To succeed, you must fail”? Well, it’s true. When you first start creating videos, don’t worry if they’re not perfect. You shouldn’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. In all honesty, I think that’s part of the beauty of it. YouTube is great because you are able to see how much you’ve progressed and improved as videos and time goes by. In other words, don’t be afraid to begin your new YouTube account- just do it.
  • Use what resources are available to you. Although you may feel as if you don’t have enough equipment or resources, be more open and look all around you. Take advantage of the weather and places around you.
  • As difficult as it is to be original, try your best to produce new and fresh content. With original content, people are going to want to return to your channel and possibly subscribe. Along with this, make sure that you don’t steal someone else’s work.
  • In the end, it’s your viewers who are watching and giving feedback on your content. That being said, be kind to your audience and to other creators as well.

With all of this in mind, the only limit is your imagination and commitment. By the way, here is a link to my personal YouTube account where I post music videos.
